Dewey, Thomas E(dmund)
(24 mar. 1902, Owosso, Mich., EE.UU.–16 mar. 1971, Bal Harbour, Fla.).

Abogado y político estadounidense. Ejerció como asistente del fiscal del gobierno en Nueva York en 1931 y en 1937 fue elegido fiscal de distrito. Por el éxito de sus campañas contra las figuras de la delincuencia organizada fue elegido por tres períodos gobernador de Nueva York (1943–55), durante los cuales puso en prácticas directrices de moderación política y fiscal. Fue candidato presidencial republicano en 1944, pero lo derrotó fácilmente Franklin D. Roosevelt; nominado otra vez en 1948, se contaba con que derrotaría al presidente en ejercicio, Harry S. Truman, pero este mantuvo el voto de los trabajadores y agricultores y ganó la elección. Se retiró de la política en 1955, aunque siguió asesorando a los gobiernos republicanos.
